SKF Deep Groove Ball Bearings
SKF Explorer performance class single row deep groove ball bearings with metal shields (2Z) or contact seals (2RS1/2RSH), C3 radial internal clearance. The most widely used rolling bearing type for electric motors, gearboxes, pumps, fans and general industrial machinery.
How to read an SKF deep groove ball bearing designation
Take 6311-2Z/C3 as an example. The first two digits are the series: 60 is extra light, 62 light, 63 medium and 64 heavy. The next two digits are the bore code: 00 = 10 mm, 01 = 12 mm, 02 = 15 mm, 03 = 17 mm, and from 04 upwards multiply by five, so 11 = 55 mm. Everything after the dash or slash is a suffix that describes shields, seals, clearance or cage.
Z or 2Z: steel shield on one or both sides. Electric motors and fans, low friction, high speed, light dust.
RS1 or 2RS1: contact rubber seal (NBR) on one or both sides. Pumps, conveyors, washdown and dusty areas.
2RSH: contact seal with better sealing efficiency and lower friction. Replaces 2RS1 in many current SKF listings.
2RSL: low-friction non-contact seal. Higher speeds where a shield is not enough.
C3 or C4: radial internal clearance greater than normal. Motors and gearboxes that run hot or with tight fits.
N or NR: snap ring groove, or groove with snap ring. Axial location in a housing.
TN9, M, J: polyamide, machined brass or pressed steel cage. Cage material matters at high speed or temperature.
