The Festo LFR-1/8-D-5M-O-MINI-A is a filter regulator from the Festo D series, Festo part number 192620. It combines a compressed air filter and a pressure regulator in one metal unit with G1/8 female threads on both ports. It filters to 5 micron, regulates the outlet pressure from 0.5 to 12 bar, passes a standard nominal flow of 650 l/min and weighs 460 g.
Compressed air entering the unit is swirled so that water droplets and larger particles are thrown out against the bowl wall and collect at the bottom, then the air passes through the 5 micron filter element before it reaches the regulator. The condensate bowl holds up to 22 ml and the drain on this version is fully automatic. A metal bowl guard protects the polycarbonate bowl.
The regulator section keeps the outlet pressure constant even when the supply pressure drops or the downstream demand changes, with a maximum pressure hysteresis of 0.2 bar. The setting knob has a detent so it cannot drift, and the housing is die-cast zinc rather than plastic, which is what makes this series suitable for industrial machines rather than workshop air lines.
This version comes without a pressure gauge. The gauge port is prepared and threaded, so a gauge can be added later, or the port can be left plugged where the pressure is monitored somewhere else in the system.
The unit is a Mini size, which is a 40 mm grid dimension, so it lines up with the other Festo D series units of the same size and can be built into a service unit combination with connecting plates, mounting brackets, a shut-off valve or a lubricator. Ambient and medium temperature range is 5 to 60 degrees C.

Dimensions
The official Festo dimension drawing for the LFR D series is in the image gallery on this page, with all the reference letters for the Mini, Midi and Maxi bodies. This unit is the Mini size, a 40 mm grid dimension. Ask us for the Festo datasheet of part number 192620 and we will send the complete dimension table.
What the LFR-1/8-D-5M-O-MINI-A is used for
- Air preparation at the inlet of a machine, where the incoming air has to be cleaned and the pressure set in one unit
- Protecting cylinders, valves and grippers from water and pipe scale that shortens seal life
- Packaging, bottling and food plants where the compressed air line carries condensate
- Setting a lower working pressure for one machine or one station on a shared air main
- Replacing a failed or cracked plastic filter regulator with a metal-bodied unit
- Service unit combinations with the other Festo D series Mini units, because they share the 40 mm grid dimension
Frequently asked questions
What does the type code LFR-1/8-D-5M-O-MINI-A mean?
Each block of the code is one option, and the list under the specifications on this page breaks this exact code down piece by piece. In short: LFR is the series, G1/8 is the thread size, D is the metal D series, MINI is the body size, and the letters in between set the pressure range, the filter grade, the pressure gauge and the condensate drain.
What is the difference between the LFR and the LR?
The LR is a pressure regulator only: it sets and holds the outlet pressure. The LFR is the same regulator with a filter and a condensate bowl built onto it, so it also removes water and particles from the air. If the machine already has filtration upstream, an LR is enough and it is smaller and cheaper. If the air comes straight off a shop main, use the LFR.
What is the difference between the 7 bar and the 12 bar version?
The number sets how far the regulator can be turned up. This unit regulates from 0.5 to 12 bar. The 0.5 to 7 bar version gives finer control across the range most machines actually use, and the 0.5 to 12 bar version is for systems that need to run above 7 bar. The inlet can be up to 12 bar in both cases.
Manual or fully automatic condensate drain, which should I choose?
This unit has a fully automatic drain. A manual drain has to be opened by an operator, which is fine where someone walks the line every shift. A fully automatic drain, the A version, empties the bowl by itself as the condensate collects, which is what you want on a machine nobody checks daily or where a full bowl would let water pass through to the valves.
What does the 5 micron and 40 micron filter grade mean in practice?
It is the size of particle the element holds back. The 40 micron element is the standard choice and gives the highest flow. The 5 micron element, the 5M version, catches finer particles and is used ahead of sensitive valves, air bearings, sensors and paint or food equipment, at the cost of a little flow. This unit is 5 micron.
Does this unit come with a pressure gauge?
No. This is the O version, supplied without a gauge. The gauge port is prepared and threaded, so a gauge can be screwed in at any time, or left plugged where pressure is read elsewhere.
Can I build this into a service unit with a lubricator and a shut-off valve?
Yes. All Festo D series units of the same size share a grid dimension, 40 mm for Mini, so this unit lines up with the LOE lubricator, the HE shut-off valve, the HEE soft-start valve and the branching modules using connecting plates and mounting brackets. Tell us what the combination has to do and we will quote the complete set.
