This is the PPSA version, with self-adjusting pneumatic end-position cushioning. The barrel is smooth-anodised wrought aluminium with an integrated sensor slot, so proximity switches sit flush in the profile and add nothing to the width of the cylinder. The covers are coated die-cast aluminium, the piston rod is high-alloy steel and the seals are polyurethane. Because the cylinder follows ISO 15552, also published as ISO 6431 and VDMA 24562, it is dimensionally interchangeable with any other ISO cylinder of the same bore and stroke, whatever brand is fitted on the machine now.
Air ports are G3/8 at both ends, the operating pressure range is 0.4 to 12 bar and the ambient temperature range is -20 to +80 degrees C. The cylinder mounts through the internal threads in the covers or with the standard ISO 15552 accessories: foot mounting, front and rear flange, swivel flange, trunnion and rod clevis.

On the PPSA version the cushioning adjusts itself: no screws to set, faster commissioning, and it stays correct if the load or the cycle time changes. PPSA is the easier choice on a new machine; PPVA is the choice when an engineer wants direct control over the deceleration.
How much force does the DSBC-80-500-PPSA-N3 give at other pressures?
Theoretical force is the piston area multiplied by the pressure, so it scales almost linearly. This 80 mm cylinder gives about 3016 N advancing at 6 bar, roughly 2011 N at 4 bar and roughly 4021 N at 8 bar. Retracting force is lower because the piston rod takes up part of the piston area: 2721 N at 6 bar. Allow for friction and for the load factor of your application, so size the cylinder above the calculated static force.
Which sensors fit the Festo DSBC?
The DSBC profile has an integrated sensor slot, so slot-mounted proximity switches drop straight in without a bracket. The usual choices are the SMT-8M, SME-8M and SDBT-MSX for magnetic sensing, wired with NEBU connecting cables. Is the DSBC-80-500-PPSA-N3 interchangeable with cylinders from other brands?
