Thirty-two points on one module keeps the rail short and leaves expansion slots free for analog or communication modules, and the solid-state outputs suit fast, continuously cycling machinery.
EM expansion modules clip onto the right-hand side of an S7-200 SMART SR, ST or G2 CPU and are recognised automatically – the module takes the next free address range and needs no switches or jumpers. Up to six EM modules can be added to one CPU, in any mix of digital and analog, so a machine that outgrows its controller can be extended without replacing it. The economic CR-series CPUs do not accept expansion modules.
