The Omron LY2N AC24 is a plug-in bi-power relay with DPDT contacts rated 10 A at 250 VAC and 7 A at 30 VDC on a resistive load, driven by a 24 VAC coil. The N marks the version with the LED operation indicator. The body measures 36 x 21.5 x 28 mm and weighs 40 g.
The LY series is the heavier brother of the MY series: the same plug-in philosophy and the same panel discipline, but twice the contact rating. Where an MY relay runs out of capacity, on a larger solenoid valve, a heater element, a small single-phase motor or a lamp bank, the LY takes over without needing a contactor. Its inductive rating of 7.5 A at 250 VAC at a power factor of 0.4 is what makes it usable on real machine loads rather than resistive ones only.
Ratings and Characteristics
| Model | Contacts | Resistive rating | Inductive rating | Socket | الوزن |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LY2N | DPDT (2 changeover) | 10 A at 250 VAC / 7 A at 30 VDC | 7.5 A at 250 VAC | PTF08A (8-pin) | 40 g |
| LY4N | 4PDT (4 changeover) | 10 A at 250 VAC / 7 A at 30 VDC | 7.5 A at 250 VAC | PTF14A (14-pin) | Approx. 70 g |
Operate and release time are both 25 milliseconds maximum. Insulation resistance is 100 megohms minimum, and dielectric strength is 2,000 VAC between contacts of different polarity and 1,000 VAC between contacts of the same polarity. Mechanical durability is 50,000,000 operations minimum for AC coils and 100,000,000 for DC coils at 18,000 operations per hour, and electrical durability at rated load is 500,000 operations minimum at 1,800 operations per hour. Ambient operating temperature is -25 to 55 degrees C with no icing or condensation.
Coil Voltages
LY2N is offered in 12, 24, 100/110, 110/120, 200/220 and 220/240 VAC, and in 12, 24, 48 and 100/110 VDC. This item is the 24 VAC version. Coil consumption is approximately 1.4 to 2.0 VA at 60 Hz for AC coils and approximately 1.4 W for DC coils.
Typical Applications
- PLC output interface: isolating a transistor or relay output card from the load it drives
- Solenoid valve and pneumatic manifold switching on packaging, filling and bottling lines
- Contactor coil control, where the relay carries the coil current and the PLC does not
- Pilot lamps, buzzers and signal towers on machine panels
- Motor direction and start interlocks in small drives and conveyor sections
- Heater and fan control in cabinets, ovens and drying tunnels
Socket and Accessories
This relay plugs into the PTF08A 8-pin front-connecting DIN-track socket. LY2 and LY4 sockets are not interchangeable, so confirm the pin count before ordering. Where the panel vibrates, fit a hold-down clip.
Choosing Between LY and MY
If the load draws more than about 3 to 5 A, or if it is inductive and switched frequently, choose the LY. If the relay simply passes a signal to a PLC input or drives a small pilot device, the MY is smaller and cheaper. Do not substitute one for the other in an existing panel without checking the socket: MY uses PYF sockets and LY uses PTF sockets, and the pin layouts differ.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Omron LY2N?
It is a plug-in bi-power relay with DPDT contacts rated 10 A at 250 VAC, fitted with an LED operation indicator, used where a miniature relay does not have enough contact capacity.
What is the difference between LY2N and LY4N?
LY2N has two changeover contacts and uses an 8-pin PTF08A socket. LY4N has four changeover contacts and uses a 14-pin PTF14A socket. Both carry the same 10 A contact rating.
Can an LY relay replace an MY relay?
Not directly. The contact rating is higher but the socket is different: MY plugs into PYF sockets and LY into PTF sockets, so replacing one with the other means changing the socket as well.
What is the inductive load rating?
7.5 A at 250 VAC at a power factor of 0.4, and 4 A at 30 VDC. Use these figures rather than the resistive figures when the load is a solenoid, a valve or a motor.
Which socket fits this relay?
The PTF08A front-connecting DIN-track socket.
How do I read the coil voltage of the relay I am replacing?
It is printed on the label on the side of the relay case. Send a photograph of that label if it is worn and we will identify the part number.
